Passau: Work is nearing completion on what will be the tallest building in Atlantica-Alba and the fourth tallest in the world. Standing at 1,584ft, Liberius Tower is the crowning feature of the new quarter of Caledon Quay and a showcase of Persusian financial power and modernity. Named in honour of the second city of the Atlantean Empire, it will be home to the new Passau Mercantile Exchange as well as serving as the global HQ of Vieto Robotics. The tower will also be home to several other corporations such as Barclay's Wealth, Deutsche Bank, Nomura International and Glaxosmithkline in addition to a new hotel, operated by the Nareem Group, that will occupy the top 20 floors. The tower forms the focal project of the Union Square development that will see new residential, commerce and leisure buildings, some of which are also nearing completion. Union Square is one of the larger projects in the Caledon Quay Phase Two masterplan, along with the now completed Caladian Place. An official topping out ceremony will take place on Tuesday July 13th.

LiberiusBiotech to commence genetic screening
Published: March 5, 2009

Passau: It was confirmed today that LiberiusBiotech would work in partnership with the Perseus National Health Service in addition to all private medical clinics to provide genetic screening on all embryos regardless of past parental health. The embryo's will be screened for a wide range of genetic diseases and both mental and physical abnormalities. Prenatal testing will also be made compulsory for all pregnant women and brings Perseus closer to the Atlantean medical ethos, though not completely as some forms of genetic testing are too advanced and complex to yet be implemented in Perseus, though parents are free to travel to Atlantis and have the tests carried out there. The Colonial Council's spokeswoman on Health, June Harriot, stated the new procedures would allow parents to have peace of mind, safe in the knowledge their children will have long and healthy lives. The decision was immediately condemned by all the religious organisations in Perseus, though after the introduction of the Secular State Act 2005 they are powerless to influence or direct government policy and their protest was immediately broken up by the Civil Defence Guard. The Governor-General spoke to give his full support to the plan and reminded religious organisations to remain outside the realm of politics or risk sanctions. Testing will commence on April 1st with women given the option of storing embryo's with the health service for the more advanced testing procedure even if they have no difficulty in becoming pregant naturally.

Atlantis City: Richard Whelan, the Atlantean Minister for Defence held a press conference today to announce that the Imperial Atlantean Empire is poised to massively increase its military presence on Earth. From April new orders for ships, tanks, helicopters and ground assault equipment will be made and the number of troops. will also be increased, the levels were not disclosed at the press conference. Atlantis already has a sizeable force, roughly divided between Perseus proper and the SARF Military base in Absalon. The new forces will be based in Perseus and will lead the way for the greater involvement of Atlantean armed forces in several of trouble spots across the world, including peacekeeping duties. The aim is to have one of the best trained and most advanced armed forces unit on earth with the ability to respond with great speed and ruthless precision. The defence minister is set to met with several of his counter-parts over the next couple of months with possible agreements on troop deployment, similar to that made with the United Kingdom a couple of weeks previously.
