Danish customs have also been brought into Dutch Columbia by the many Danish immigrants in the mid-1800's. These customs include "hygge" which has no real English translation but is the absence of anything annoying, irritating, or emotionally overwhelming, and the presence of and pleasure from comforting, gentle, and soothing things, Danish design and architecture, and the Danish Christmas (Jul, or Yule) which has had its own modifications to fit to Dutch Columbian society.
